Student Skills Resources
At SLVMS, we understand the challenge of the increase of work transitioning from elementary school and preparing for high school. We are committed to supporting the growth of every student’s Studentness Skills. Below is a list of resources for students and families to use in tackling everyday assignments as well as keeping up with all the different communications coming from our school.
Planners - To best support students in building their executive functioning skills, all students will be provided planner in their ELA (6th grade) or Math (7th and 8th grade) class on the second week of school
- Students should bring this planner to school every day and write down current work and upcoming assignments to track their progress and be better prepared.
After School Support Schedule - After School Support
Many of our teachers provide after school support during the week for students to ask questions, make up missing assignments/assessments, and take advantage of redo/reassessments.
Schoology - Students are shown how to access Schoology in their classes and families will be emailed home access codes within the first two weeks of school. Reach out to Ms. Fernandez @[email protected] for PowerSchool support.
Email Communications
- Many teachers send weekly newsletters to summarize what is being taught that week or upcoming assignments/assessments that are heavily weighted in the gradebook
- Principal Messages - Ms. Urbancic sends weekly emails on Fridays to inform students and their families of important school wide events, field trips, assemblies, etc.
- Panther Sports Updates - Our Athletic Director, Lupita Alaniz, sends out weekly communications regarding tryouts
