Ways You Can Help

What We Need Now

8th Grade Parents Needed!
Okay all of you 8th Grade Parents, we know you are ready to move to higher ground and become enmeshed in all of the activities of High School, but before you go WE NEED YOU!  8th grade parents are needed to help plan the 8th grade end of year activities. Help your 8th grader go out with a bang and whole lot of fun! If you are interested in helping please join us at the next Panther Club Meeting on March 1st. Or, contact Martha Waldon.

Sign Up for eScrip

eScrip is the program that brings in the MOST money for SLVMS—and it's the easiest to do.

Simply, register your grocery savings cards (i.e. Safeway) and consumer credit cards (i.e. VISA, Mastercard) with eScrip. When used at participating merchants, a percentage of your total sales or bill will be donated back to our school.

SLVMS’s eScrip program has brought in
over $9,500 so far this year!

If you are not already registered for eScrip, sign up now. Your family and friends can also register so spread the word! What are you waiting for? Log on to www.escrip.com and register! The San Lorenzo Valley Middle School supporter id is #5224874. Share this with everyone you know!

More ways to earn $$$ for our school!

Now you can receive bonus box tops credits to our school directly when you shop at Safeway! Visit www.2ways2earn.com for more details and be sure to sign up for more special offers at www.boxtops4education.com. Our school ID# 310911.

Want to get involved in something fun? We are looking for a new Box Tops Coordinator for next year and need help processing Box Tops now. Contact Martha Waldon for more info.

Keep on clippin’!

Proposed Panther Bylaws for Review

In hopes of filing for 501c3 Nonprofit Status by the end of this school year, we are updating the bylaws. Some changes are required for nonprofit status. Some changes are prudent for the protection of the Club. Some changes are for clarification or to represent what the real culture of the Panther Club is. Read On>>

Panther Pantry
Supporting SLVMS Sports One Snack at a Time

The Panther Club operates the Panther Pantry which provides a source of income for all of the Middle School Athletic events. All income from the Pantry helps to pay for equipment and uniforms to make it possible for students to participate in school sports without paying to play. It takes many people to operate the snack pantry, so volunteer help is always welcome on the day of athletic events.

Donations keep the Pantry up and running. All donations sold go right to the Athletic fund. Check the Panther Club Panther Pantry page for an updated list of items needed and calendar of athletic events for volunteering.

Classroom donations
Handwipes, hand sanitizer and Kleenex are always welcome. Please drop your donations off in the office.

What We Do:

Throughout the year, the Panther Club (SLVMS parent group) sponsors or provides volunteers for a wide variety of events and activities. If you have an idea that you think will help, let us know. Here are descriptions of some of the events that we have planned.

ESCRIP is a free and easy way for schools to make money. Parents, relatives, neighbors etc. can sign up (renewed annually) listing SLVMS as their school of choice. All purchases made at participating stores (e.g. Safeway) through the use of grocery savings cards and consumer credit (registered VISA and Mastercard) will have donations automatically accrued for our school. All you have to do is register your card numbers then use your credit or grocery cards every time you shop. Log on to www.escrip.com and register, the San Lorenzo Valley Middle School supporter id is #5224874. Or, download a sign-up form (Safeway card only) and return it to your child's classroom or the school office.

Drive for Schools Fundraiser - SLVMS has once again been invited by Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and The Capitola Auto Mall to participate in the annual car give away fundraiser - Drive For Schools! This year the Grand Prize will be a brand new Toyota Prius or Subaru Outback (including tax and license)! If the winner is not in the market for a new car, they will be awarded $25,000 cash instead! There will be MANY other smaller prizes awarded as well. >>Read more.

Box Tops for EducationThis is ongoing throughout the year.  It’s a fun competition between the 3 grade levels and they choose a prize at the end of the year.  We usually raise about $400+ each year. Learn more about collecting Box Tops for Education here and also find coupons for your favorite brands.

Panther Pantry - The Pantry sells snacks at after school sports events. While only a few years running, it has already been very successful! The money raised goes to fund PE class supplies and after school sports (pays for Officials &prevents us from becoming a “Pay to Play” sports program). The Pantry can always use cash donations for supplies, a person to assist the coordinator in the stores operation (opening & closing for home games) and volunteers to run the pantry during games. Last year, this raised $6,000 ($3.500 was given to the Athletic Director for new uniforms). We REALLY need to get a 6th or 7th grade parent to “learn the ropes” to take over next year.

Halloween Dance – The Panther Club sponsors a Halloween Dance.  We have a lot of parents excited about getting involved in the decorations & coordination.

Back to School Night - September. Baked goods /bottled drinks are needed for our bake sale table.

Magazine Drive - This is coordinated through the school (not Panther Club), but they do need parent volunteers to help ON Prize day.  Starts in Sept. Money raised helps the ASB to pay for dances, after School sports officials, uniforms & many other things.

Ink Cartridge / Toner Recycle Program – We got this running toward the end of last year.  We worked it out so that we will buy cases (10 reams = 5,000 sheets of copy paper & 10 cartridges/toner can buy a case of 10 reams) of paper that will be divided among the faculty & staff.  We’re hoping if it works as planned, we can keep the school supplied with paper throughout the year.  Just drop off any brand of ink cartridges/toners & we’ll get store credit to purchase papers.

Donate Tissues / Hand Sanitizers In middle school, it’s hard for one family to donate supplies to 6 teachers.  Certain classes do need specific donations (Science, Art, etc.) but we found that every class has the same need for copy paper & tissues/hand sanitizers (especially during the cold season since classrooms do not have sinks).  If we can keep them supplied with these items, they can use their school allotments for other special needs for their class.  Tissues/hand sanitizers & cartridge/toner recycling will be ongoing throughout the year.

Ben Lomond Super – You MUST use your BLS card for the school to get credit.  Just giving them your phone # will not give credit to our school.

Amerigas - Are you customers of Amerigas Propane?  If yes then save your receipts.  You can turn them in to our school or turn them in to their office & ask them to credit SLVMS.  Our school will get a percentage & it costs nothing extra for you.  You can also ask any of your friends, neighbors or businesses who use Amerigas to support our school.

Target & Nob Hill – They also give a percentage of your purchases to our school.  You just need to sign up with them.

Art Night – New this year, we will have an Art Night in Sept.  Cost will be only $2 per person, snacks will be included.  Any age is welcome to participate.  If you like the artwork a lot, order forms will be available to have the artwork put on a mug, bag etc.  They’ll make great gifts for the grandparent (or friends/relatives) who is hard to shop for (they’ll be delivered in plenty of time for the holidays).

School Dance Chaperones - Organized through the school, they need parent chaperones to help ensure that they are a safe and fun environment for all. Parents mainly monitor the doors (to make sure no one is trying to sneak in) or run the snack bar. Discipline is handled by the staff chaperones. Sign up for one or more dances – 8th grade parents do NOT chaperone the “8th grade only” dance.

Winter Carnival - Help supervise during this event & set up a fundraising table.  It’s a good cause but a booth makes very little money.  The question is whether we want to set up our own booth or just help with the supervision.

Staff Recognition Day – Done in May.  We give a gift (either a large one for the entire staff or individual gifts).  We set up a fancy luncheon outside & last year, we also had a “Specialty Coffee” Day.  This has been very popular & successful.

Staff Supplies Funding - Last year, we gave them $25 per unit.  We already gave them their disbursements for the start of this year PLUS we are giving them copy paper & tissues.  If successful, we can keep them supplied for the entire year.  We also already gave them money to buy 2 more Elmo Projector sets.  Each set is just under $1,300 each.

Popcorn Sales / After School Dessert Sales- The Panther Club has a popcorn machine and we're looking to have Friday popcorn sales & after school dessert sales (ice cream, smoothies etc.) to raise funds for the 8th Grade End of Year festivities. We need a parent(s) to help sell during lunch or after school (maybe once a month – whenever a parent is available). Dates & times are very open.

Open House – Held in May. We need different people to help coordinate the various events (bake sale, silent auction & dinner.

8th Grade End of Year Activities - Need several parent volunteers to coordinate or volunteer at the two events. We want to give them a great send off!!!

After School Clubs / Activities and Sports - Ongoing throughout the year, we need parent volunteers to help with the Panther Pantry food sales, coordinating a monthly club (e.g. cooking, ping pong). You can volunteer for just one meeting or for the entire club meetings.  This is very open.

Halloween Gram / Valentine Candy Gram - We did the Ghoul-O-Grams the past few years but since we are putting on the Halloween Dance, do we still want to do this?  Do we want to do the Valentine Grams?

Honor Roll Breakfasts / Lunch - Need volunteers to help out with these events.  Done a couple weeks after Grades come out each Quarter.

Panther Jewelry/Sticker Sales - We have a limited # of PAW items for sale.  This is not a big money maker – more along the lines of providing spirit items.

Go Green Recycle Day – Done for the last 2 years in March.  It was very successful and done as a drive through in the SLE parking lot.
